If you are responsible for historical records at your institution and don’t know what to do with them, this workshop is for you. Often, associations, libraries, and even volunteer organizations end up acquiring archival collections, occasionally by surprise. Archives come with their own terminology and cataloging methods, which can be challenging for those tasked with with their care.

Archives 101 has five main modules: 1. Records (What are “records” and what are “archives”?); 2. Collecting; 3. Arrangement and Description; 4. Preservation; and 5. Reference and Outreach. The goal of Archives 101 is to introduce basic archival education to people who are on the front lines of caring for records but have not had the benefit of formal training, including librarians, museum curators, public historians, and volunteers associated with various clubs, religious institutions, businesses, and social organizations.
